Thusvillage shopping complex now open in Wesselton Wesselton residents streamed in, in numbers to take advantage of the opening specials. The biggest drawcard, Boxer Supermarket, was packed to capacity with various promotions being presented outside the store. 3 hours ago Residents in Wesselton stream into the Thusivillage shopping complex to take advantage of the opening specials on Wednesday, 20 March, after the complex was declared officially open on the day. The newly constructed shopping complex in Thusivillage, Wesselton, was officially opened for shopping on Wednesday, 20 March. Wesselton residents streamed to it in numbers to take advantage of the opening specials. The biggest drawcard, Boxer Supermarket, was packed to capacity with various promotions being presented outside the store. The Thusiville intersection traffic was affected as motorists drove into the complex and the taxi drivers took advantage as a makeshift taxi rank cropped up in front of the complex. Construction of the complex began in August. Shift Capital was the company in charge of steering the project. The company, along with the owner of the land where the complex is built on, began planning the development in 2017. The complex will also have a filling station, which is halfway to completion. According to the property developer of Shift Capital, Mr Nic McSeveney, at the time, the shopping complex was to create an estimated 400 to 500 permanent jobs for the community at large. Construction of the complex means residents of Wesselton need not come to the central business district in Ermelo to do their shopping, and the community is in agreement that the complex will bring more good to the area. The complex officially opened during a time when the country is experiencing loadshedding and when the Highvelder asked about the constant power cuts in Thusivillage in August, Mr McSeveney pointed out that the complex will have its own back-up generators to ensure they can render services, which was evident on Wednesday when Ermelo experienced loadshedding. At the time, the project was said to be completed by 1 March and even though they were a few weeks late, the company did fulfill its mandate when the complex officially opened on Wednesday, 20 March.

Local resident wins Boxer Brand Dash national competition Jun 06, 2019, 09:13 am It was all fun and games at Lebowakgomo Boxer Superstore on Monday morning when the grocery outlet celebrated the Boxer Brand Dash national competition winner, Katlego Leeuw. The 24-year-old from Ga-Mphahlele Seleteng was chosen from among many other Boxer customers nationwide and won himself a R2 500 shopping voucher. He entered the competition last week after purchasing participating products and spending at least R300 in-store. The delighted winner said he visited the outlet with his mother Marvis Leeuw and used his cell phone to enter the competition. He stated that he could not believe it when he received a phone call to let him know that he had won the contest. “I entered the competition with no hopes of winning. All I did was to follow the instructions on the till slip to enter. The prize came as a surprise and I would like to thank my mother for shopping at Boxer. We love and enjoy products sold at the store because they are fresh and yummy. Boxer is the best store and I would like to thank the shop for choosing me as the winner,” Leeuw said. Participating products include Boxer eggs, meat, flour, sugar, cooking oil, washing powder and nappies. Boxer national marketing director Andrew Mills emphasised that the competition was initiated after the Easter holidays with the aim of giving back to their loyal customers. The winners are chosen randomly on a Friday and they visit the winning store on a Monday, he explained. Mills reiterated that the feeling of seeing winners and employees celebrate is amazing. “The competition can be won by anyone. This brings joy in customers and Boxer employees. We have crowned winners in various provinces already and the journey has been amazing. Boxer has been in existence for 43 years and people trust us with their grocery needs hence we have competitions to thank them,” Mills remarked and added that they value their customers and always treat them with respect. According to Mills, the competition ends in three weeks but urged Boxer customers to look out for the next exciting contest. The highlight of the prize handover was without doubt the Boxer Brand Dash race where Katlego had to race with a trolley around the store to collect ten selected products in a space of two minutes. Each product earned him R250 and upon completion of the race, Katlego received his R2 500 shopping voucher. Photo by Mbulelo Sisulu By MBULELO SISULU WATCHING kids scavenging for food at a dump was too much for a group of caring residents. The 10 concerned members of the community of Dutywa in the Eastern Cape came together earlier this year to do something about it. They started the Linomso Communi ty Child Centre, which now caters for more than 30 poor children. Co founder Nontlahla Bhulu de scribed the situation in squatter camps around Dutywa as “sad”. “These people are surrounded by pov erty and go to the dump to look for food. One day, I approached Nomachule Bale ni about the situation and we decided to start this centre,” she said. “We approached eight other people and agreed to buy food for the kids from our own pockets. We cook for them and serve them breakfast and lunch,” said Nontlahla. She said the centre also had class rooms where they taught the kids from 9am to 2pm. “Some of these kids do not have birth certificates because their mums are too busy boozing. It’s very shocking. It means some of these kids can’t be en rolled in school,” she said. Nomachule said the community pro vided them with land to start a garden. “We grow vegetables for the kids. We also get food parcels from Boxer Super market. Other shops also help some times,” she said. “The poverty is very bad in the squat ter camps. I wish the government would do something. We do laundry and cook for these kids. We also assist those at school with their homework.” Anyone who wants to help is asked to contact Nomachule on 071 935 2693.

Help after storm tragedy Boxer Cala Superstore provides food for 250 families whose homes were destroyed by a storm . _ GIVING SPIRIT: The staff of Cala Boxer deliver groceries to 250 people left devastated by a recent storm in the area Picture: SUPPLIED Five people including a small child were killed when a horrific storm tore through Cala during the night near the end of September. The storm damaged 39 homes, leaving many families homeless and without food. Twelve people had to be hospitalized and an estimated 250 people required nourishment. To make matters worse, many animals, used for food, were also killed in the storm. “By the time the sun had risen the next morning to reveal the severe damage that had been caused by the storm, Boxer Cala Superstore had already mobilized a team to help,” according to a statement from the supermarket. “When we arrived at the scene everything was a mess,” said Boxer regional manager Sobs Dlima. “It was so quiet. No one was walking around and you could feel the pain in the air. It was a sad and terrible thing to see. “Most of the people living here had lost everything.” Manzimdaka Khutuka, the headman of the Cala area said: “It is the first time I have seen natural destruction like this. “We thought it was just a normal storm but then we heard a loud crashing sound and our roofs were ripped off and our walls crumbled. It was horrific.” DI ima realized that without immediate help, those affected by the storm would starve. Cala Boxer delivered enough food to keep the families nourished so that they could begin repairing their damaged homes. “Boxer has again shown that it serves the community. “Sometimes this means serving shoppers in store when tragedy strikes. “Boxer is glad we could help,” DI ima said.
